The Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS), founded in 1968 by Frank M. Young, is Houston’s acclaimed musical theatre production company. Since producing, directing and conducting TUTS’ first production, Bells Are Ringing, Mr. Young has guided the non-profit company to national acclaim through 37 seasons of more than 275 musicals. During its 37 seasons, TUTS, which is one of America’s largest non-profit producers of musical theatre, has produced a total of 45 Premieres, including 12 World Premieres, and is currently represented on Broadway with Beauty and the Beast. TUTS is also noted for mounting many International tours, such as the Tony Award-winning Carousel.
In 1968, TUTS was the first theatrical organization in Houston to perform free to the public at Miller Outdoor Theatre, and continues to perform free to the public every summer. Now housed in the new Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, TUTS annually presents a six-show indoor subscription season. |
